Truth be told, I don't know if the person I'm knitting for is allergic to wool. This is where Sassy Skein Worsted is a great. SS is a worsted weight cotton yarn. If you want something heavier, just double it. I have found that it works great for a child's cap, elbow length gloves (gauntlets), and as pouncing balls for cats. Lastly, for me at least, it doesn't matter if I use metal needles or wooden/bamboo ones.
