Probably not the best choice for this pattern

Perhaps it's just me, but I'm having a helluva time getting this pattern going with this yarn. My stitch count has been off every time and the yarn is looking worn from ripping it out over and over. Perhaps a nice sport weight or fingering yarn instead?
