What is yarn weight? The weight or gauge of a yarn simply means how thick it is. Some yarns are skinny as a thread, others are thicker than a pencil. You'll need to use the right weight yarn to insure your knitting project will come out as intended. Patterns usually recommend the gauge by stating how many stitches are knit over 1" or 4".
